Solo in Different View: Comments About

Solo in My Opinion
by Adystya Imawahyu, student of Faculty of Letters and fine Arts Sebelas Maret University

Actually, this is my first time in Solo. I’m not Solonese. Before I live in Solo, I think Solo is a big city, the deep Javanese culture inside. I wanted to live here because I’m interested with this town. In my imagination, this town is very classic, artistic, and different with the other town I’ve ever been. In addition, this town is famous enough. But after I know how Solo exactly is, I changed my mind. Solo is not such a big city. I think, Solo is a small city, and it is not really crowded, if I compare it with another big city in East Java. But I love this city, and I like to live here. No traffic jam, no big buildings, and of course no pollution. Although this city is busy enough, there are no rubbishes everywhere.

I found some difficulties for my first time here. It wasn’t easy to adapt with Solonese. I’m an East Javanese girl.that’s why I have a different main character with the Solonese. The Solonese is so calm and they really keep their good attitude in their daily life. But East Javanese is so straight to the point so their attitude looks bad. I also found some difficulties with Solo language and dialogue.

Now, after I stay here for about six months, I’ve got different feeling. I prefer to live in Solo than East Java because Solo is quite different with East Java. Solo is a cultural city, and I love culture. Beside that, the differences between Solonese and East Javanese made me impressed. Solonese is so friendly, but in the other hand, East Javanese is so individualistic. I hope I can live here in a long time, not just for my studying time.

Balekambang At The Beginning

Balekambang Park was build by Kanjeng Gusti Mangkunegoro VII in the year 1921. At first, it was named Partini Tuin which have the meaning Partini Park. Partini is the name of Kanjeng Gusti Mangkunegoro VII's oldest daughter. But it was familiar with Balekambang to people. Balekambang lightened with some attractions such as Kethoprak/Wayang Orang and fishing pond.

At Present, Balekambang has been revived after a years sleeping in a worst condition. it's now revitalized in best condition. This revitalization is a plan of Solo Government to improve Public Service.

Another Century, Another Story

Another Century Another Story

Time when the story began, there was rebellion between Mas Garendi and Paku Buwono II who worked together with Dutch. One of the allies of that rebellion was Pangeran Sambernyawa. Someone who was dissapointed with Paku Buwono II. He felt that Paku Buwono II had cut Sukowati region which should belong to Pangeran Sambernyawa's Father.

Being rebelled, Paku Buwono II then moved away to East Java (Pacitan & Ponorogo). Fortunately, With a help from Dutch E. Indies army under Major Baron Van Hohendrof and Adipati Bagus Suroto, the rebellion could be stopped.

Knowing that Kartosuro Palace had been ruined, Paku Buwono II ordered Tumenggung Tirtowiguno, Tumenggung Honggowongso, and Pangeran Wijil to look for a new location for The Palace.

In the year 1745, Paku Buwono II marched to Sala Village to build a new palace. That place was choosen because of so many spiritual and physical considerations. After that Sala Village become Surakarta Hadiningrat.
